HWS 332 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Adipose Tissue, Microgram, Triglyceride
Document Summary
Supply glucose: primary source of energy for several body cell types. Type of lipid: triglycerides, oils,, phospholipids and sterols(important for hormones, insoluble in water (fat is hydrophobic) Source of energy during rest and sleep. Storage form for excess energy: adipose tissue(where we store fat) beneath the skin(subcutaneous) and around several organs(visceral) (this is medically disruptive, the majority of lipids we eat, found in margarine, butter, oils and animal products. Primary source of tissues in muscle, bones and skin. Can be used as energy, but not usually the primary source. Made of amino acids- the basic building blocks used to synthesize, grow and maintain tissue. Play a role in the immune system. Act as enzymes: catalysts and control chemical reactions. Transportation of nutrients and waste (provides an aqueous solution) Drinking water does not cause you to loose weight (it helps facilitate healthy metabolism shit) Major or macro: those required by the body in 100mg to gram amounts daily.
