External o/t, institution based view, might choose to do. The resource-based view is developed on the insight that competitors do not share certain resources and capabilities specific to one"s firm. In global business, the institution-based view deals with internal strengths and weaknesses. Institution based is = rules of the game which is external to the firm. Value chain consists of a stream of activities from upstream to downstream that add value. Use to be ppl that physically touched and changed the product. For value chain not necessarily touching the product but supporting it possibly ie. finance function that supports the service/product but not necessarily a part of the product. Value stream- what does it take until you get the object of the product or service at the downstream level. Logistics supports value chain b/c it takes logistics to gather components, assemble etc. can be a wide range of activities depending on the company.
