Thought that rem activity baby is engaged is is activating many parts of brain and prepping them for onslaught of info they will be presented with when they are born. Helps them process and synthesize new bits of information. Mind still buzzes from learning, laura sleeps in lab and her rapid eye movements almost doubles after intense learning activity. Exp: if learning complicated logic game and effect with sleep. Students played game then showed word pairs then had to remember. Once she goes from stage 2 to rem she will be woken up. She is kept awake by a math task to make sure she doesn"t go back to sleep. Kids were awakened in random intervals or get to sleep through night. A week past, and catherine deprived of dreams didn"t do well, but neither did anyone.
