Document Summary
Most cultures have less insomnia than we do. Most likely to occur in women or men, but it is misleading because women usually seek help more than men do. Doesn"t go on its own without treatment: ex: nurse avged 55 minutes of sleep a night. She was rested her cognition was not in any observable way impaired (she was not depressed and functionality was fine) = not insomnia. She doesn"t need more sleep then she gets: 2 types. Some people have both: if you have it for longer than a month, go to the dr. and have them refer you to a sleep specialist, drugs to treat. Drugs that induce sleep is not a promising treatment for long term insomnia. Some people report feeling sleep is different with a pill, and research shows that they may let people sleep in same way (don"t go through same sleep cycles) Discovering illness in animals confirmed physical reality of disorder.
