PSYC 327 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Latent Inhibition, Metacognition, Lev Vygotsky
Document Summary
Learning- relatively permanent change in behavior as a result of experience. Constructivism (piaget and vygotsky)- children acquire knowledge and assemble schemes that create pathways that continuously builds- knowledge builds on existing knowledge. Proximal development- looking at how community, school and environment contribute to the way learning occurred. Metacognition (flavell)- executive control process decides what thought processes need to be used when they should be used- monitor and manage our own mental activities. Social & emotional learning (bandura)- bobo doll study. Adult acted violently towards bobo doll while children watched- children mimicked violent actions= children learn from their environment. Single stimulus- can take any form- studying rat behavior is a good way to look at learning. Rat will take note of such disturbances and turn their heads- more sensitive to stimulus with time= sensitization, less notice= habituation. Behaviorism- an empirically rigorous science focused on observable behaviors and not unobservable internal mental processes.
