Document Summary

The purpose of the rhetorical pr cis is to offer a short account of a text that does more than summarize the content. The rhetorical pr cis, which is divided into four sections, highlights the author"s thesis, purpose, audience, and backing for his or her argument. This exercise is meant to help you develop the skills you will need to construct a nuanced thesis statement and execute your rhetorical analysis oral presentation in the coming weeks. Sections of the pr cis: name of author, [optional: a phrase describing author], genre and title of work, date in parentheses; a rhetorically accurate verb (such as assert, argue, suggest, imply, . ); and a that clause containing the major assertion (thesis statement) of the work: an explanation of how the author develops and/or supports the thesis, which usually follows the chronological order of the text. Race and erasure: the salience of race to latinos/as.
