MATH 141 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Random Variable, Binomial Distribution
Document Summary
Mathematical expression used to describe the rule in real life. It will demonstrate the pattern and trend, and make prediction. The procedure we build and diagnose the model. We only have one ammo, therefore we can have only one outcome. We may describe the outcome using success vs failure. The chance that the shooter will get success should be same when using a same pistol. Define a variable x to assume only two values, i. e. success or failure. It is repeating the game a for 6 times; and we can only try 6 times since no more ammos. Each time we have only two possibilities: success or failure. Using a same revolver, the chance of hitting the target yields same in each trial. The above experiment (all n trials) is so called binomial experiment, and its distribution is called binomial distribution. n and p are called parameters.
