Idea: mandates early intervention services for any child under 3 years of age who has developmental delays or has a high probability of developmental delay, can start from birth. Identify what student will need before the student needs before school even starts. Assessments: diagnostic tests in the five developmental domains, curriculum-based assessments, current levels. Idea will not identify children so young under a specific disability category. They usually just (cid:272)all the(cid:373) (cid:862)de(cid:448)elop(cid:373)e(cid:374)tally delayed(cid:863) usually ide(cid:374)tify stude(cid:374)ts between kindergarten and third grade. Example: child was labeled early on as being mentally retarded and was given intensive intervention when he was labeled.
