Genetic engineering: manipulation of genetic material of an organism to achieve some result (only one organism) Recombinant dna technology: recombining genes of different organisms to create a new organism with new capabilities. It works through these steps: chop dna from donor species, amplify the single copy of dna into many copies (pcr) you need primers, nucleotides, dna polymerase. Steps are: denaturation: heat the dna to separate strands, primer annealing: lower the temperature and allow primers to add to the template. Dna: primer extension: incubate at high temperature to allow synthesis of new complementary strands. Insert dna into bacteria vectors are dna molecules that carry foreign dna into a host cell and replicate it there.
