CAS BI 315 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Epithelium, Adipose Tissue, Endocrine System
Document Summary
Office hours: tuesday 3-4; wednesday 3-4; friday: 2:30-3:30. Physiology is the study of the function of the different components of the body. Anatomy is the study of the structure of the different components of the body. They form a membrane like structure or sheet: they protect the inside structure, they transport things, forming compartments between structures, epithelial tissues or cells: transport example move nutrients from intestines into the blood through epithelial cells. You cannot dissect such as the urinary system. You can also have a diffused scattered part of the body that can be functionally together: ***you don"t really have a functionally discrete organ systems; they are all together the system. You have one system and all these organ systems depend, support, change each other: a kidney system is as important as the heart to control the blood pressure; in fact, they have hormones that go between each other. They are functionally one giant unit that control blood pressure.
