CAS BI 106 Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Cricoid Cartilage, Thyroid Cartilage, Vestibular Fold
Document Summary
Thyroid cartilage is the prominent part that vibrates- comes around and forms a pointy bow man ship. Cricoid cartilage- goes all the way around- letter o. Trachea is held open by the c rings. Arytenoid- pointing straight up (posterior) and shaped as the letter l. Posterior attaching point for the vocal cords to come together. Epiglottis- eating go down to cover the trachea. Pair of folds- vestibular folds- superior to vocal folds, highly sensitive, sensation triggers coughing- most sensitive- crumb or small drop of water; open up trash can, first thing you see is the vestibular folds. Lose your voice- laryngitis triangle parallel lines that vibrate together. Stretch the vocal folds taut to make higher pitched sounds. Relax the vocal folds to make lower pitched sounds. Thyroid cartilage is a c so that you adjust pitch forward higher pitch. Children with their high pitch sounds and males with larger larynx. Trachealis muscle connects the ends of the cartilage.
