Young nurse, alma, takes care of elisabeth vogler who has become mute. Alma takes care of elisabeth in the administrator"s cottage. Alma speaks about her life, including anxieties about relationship with her fianc , karl. Henrik and confesses to cheating on him with younger, underage, guys. Elisabeth speaks, but alma writes is off as a dream. Elisabeth writes letters analyzing alma, alma sees them and is upset. Alma breaks a glass and leaves it there, knowing elisabeth will get cut on it. Alma goes crazy and tries to get elisabeth to talk, almost flings boiling water on her until. Elisabeth"s husband, mr. vogler, mistakes alma for his wife and she originally rejects him, but ends up having sex with him while elisabeth is watching. Alma catches elisabeth in kitchen looking upset, holding picture of small boy, her son. Alma narrates elisabeth"s life story, but it"s mean.
