Comrade Stalin Meets the World, 1929-1939:
Five Years plan (1928-1991)
- Heavy industry
- Kolkhozy schedules
- By the end of 1920s, he is completely incharge
- He eliminates any economic rivals: Kulaks and NEPmen
- Kulaks were peasants who owned their own land
- NEPmen were New Economic Policy men who decided to open factories that
would produce consumer goods for profit. People financially independent of
Stalin which went against him
- So both were targets
- 1st target is begun in 1928 and by 1932 is successful: emphasizes the
production of heavy machine buildings. And large scale agriculture.
- To eradicate this group from the economy, Stalin comes up with this plan- a
100% tax on all profits. Factories close as there is no point of it.
- The Kulaks however do not accept this they resist but in a very limited.
- Kolkhozy: Agriculture something.
- dizzy ith suess 9 – All these groups are put down, through either
stringent economic policies or brutalities. 2 years into the 5 years plan, he gives
a speech where he says his represetaties got dizzy ith suess. Ad this is
not that the nation stands for which was not true.
- Magnitogorsk: industrial city in the early 1930s. production of steel and metal.
Emphasis on power and control.
- Urban population (33%) some people were willingly moving but others were
being forced for labor and export.
- At the start of “tali’s regie, “oiet Uio as aout 7% agraria ut ithi
2-3 years it fell down to about 65%. This means there was a huge shift of labor.
- Kolkhozy rate: Collective farming schemes expand:
-1930: 50%
-1939: 96% of all farming in the Soviet Union was done on these collective farm
lands using huge equipment etc.
- Education: Create a totalitarian state. Start with kids for this. Soviet education
was designed to make Stalin into living good. The goal of a good Soviet citizen
is to serve Stalin.
- Young Pioneers (10-15) after school activity to promote communism through
differet atiities. They ere also the oes atig as sithes to ifor the
government of anyone criticizing Stalin.
- Komsomol (15-21): Same idea for high school and college kids.
- Red Army: If male, then you enlist in the Red Army. Devoted to defending the
Soviet State. Minimum 2 years.
- Communist Party: you have to become a member of the communist party.
- Fasist orroig: What “tali does ith his youg ary is the
implemented into Germany by Hitler. The indoctrination of the Red Army is
also applied to Hitler’s regie.
