Document Summary
Consciousness: the subjective experience of the world, resulting from brain activity, the quality of being aware of an external object or something within itself. : the state or ability to perceive, feel, or to be conscious of events. Persistent vegetative state: full coma that lasts more than a month. Considered brain dead and pattern of brain (cortical) activity is unstable. Minimally conscious state : deliberate movement and communication is possible. Unable to access certain area within the brain. (broca"s area in erik ramsey"s case) Able to see, hear, and understand surroundings, but not able to communicate. Signals being sent out are unable to reach the brain and create physical response in the body. In this situation, the corpus callosum is removed from the brain, causing there to be no correlation between the left and the right hemispheres of the brain. The two halves cannot receive information directly from each other.
