Example: a person with a paralyzed leg came into the hospital and told to lift the other leg. When he did, the paralyzed leg pushed down, so he wasn"t truly paralyzed. (remember this for exam). Munchausen"s: when they are faking but not for a reasonable reason. Faking in order to get some medical attention, when there is no obvious bene t. This is a mental disorder: someone who is faking abdominal pain to get surgery. Factitious disorder imposed on another, known previously as munchausen syndrome by proxy. This is another disorder in which there are physical symptoms, but the symptom is voluntarily produced. The person is consciously faking it but not for an obvious kind of reason (which is different from malingering: when a person fakes a disorder for a reason.
