Most significant feature is arbitrary nature: overcome this nature by linguistic rules and customs, things are called what they are because of the majority of people saying them. Allows people to think or talk about the past, present, and future. Non-verbal behavior: nodding your head up and down, thumbs up or down, hugging. Intrapersonal communication communicating with oneself : voice of the sound of your thinking, way we mentally process information influences our interactions with others. Dyadic/interpersonal communication: dyad two people interacting, can occur in person, phone usage, ims, social networking, etc, most common type of personal communication, not limited to 2somes can be 3somes or other small groups. Small group communication every person can participate actively with other members: possess characteristics not present in a dyad. Conformity pressure is not in a dyad.
