As people of the west we should learn about the great religions of the west: judaism, christianity, muslim (more people than judaism, as many as christianity but not a lot of people know about muslim) All culture before the enlightenment is based on religion the three religions above: so learning about these three religions provides an important foundation. Actually only dark if you live in western europe everywhere else cultural production is led by muslim religion. Woohoo no dark ages, only years where judaism drove stuff, and then muslim drives culture. Architecture: earliest form of visual arts, mosques were needed to provide a place of worship for the thousands of new converts islam gathered. Provided also a way for muslim leaders to compete with the impressive. Christian churches that were already built: great mosque of damascus (706-715 ce) First muslim dynasty moved the capital to damascus.
