Strep decides to masturbate instead of doing what socrates tells him to do. Hedonism: seeks pleasure and avoids pain (that is what strep is doing when he masturbates on the couch) Pragmatic and creativity is how you solve problems and that"s whay socrates is trying to tell strep to do. Strep is thinking of suicidal thoughts because he doesn"t want to go to court. His whole teaching is to put yourself worth. Socrates angry because strep"s suicidal thoughts goes against what socrates believes in. Negation of the self vs. the affirmation of the self.
