PS101, Lec 24 Last Lecture:  04/30/2013 Bipolar Depression: Ups and downs. Mood swings. Maniac episodes.  Unipolar depresson: (uni­directional) decreased behavior. Everything goes down. Lifetime risk  is 12% in men, 25% in women.  Depressed mood.   Anhedonia Reduced energy:  At least one of the first two.  At least two total.  Bipolar Depression:  Lifetime risk 1%  Bipolar 1: one or more many episodes.  Elevated irritability, energy, insomnia.  Schizophrenia:  Advised to take medications, but don’t, so they go off their medications and end up in the street. This is why  it’s more common on the streets.  Diagnosed most: around puberty or after.  Lifetime risk 1% 50% genetic concordance in identical twins.  NOT multiple personality disorder.  Principal symptom is: disordered thinking.  Positive symptoms: (excessive behavior) Hallucinatio
