Chapter 4: operant conditioning (oct 14th to oct 21st) Operant conditioning: association between behaviors and their consequences. Future behaviors determined by the consequences that initially follow behavior. Shaping: reinforcers used to guide behavior toward closer and closer approximations of desired goal behavior. Reinforcer: any consequence that strengthens behavior: primary biological reinforcers: food, drink, pleasure, secondary money, grades, tokens. Oct 14th, 2016: something can be positively and negatively reinforcing at the same time, escape learning engage in behavior to terminate already present/ongoing aversive stimulus ex: rat already getting shocked. Amount and magnitude / bigger the reward, the better = more strengthening happening. The higher the quality- the quicker the consumption. Ex: professor would give us 5$ an hour to work in a mail room vs . The amount of reward will strengthen likeliness to work in mailroom. Continuous fast learning but fast extinction too. Partial- some of the behaviors reinforced. , not every time.
