Aud (doctor of audiology) or other doctoral degree required to use the title audiologists . 48 million people are hard of hearing in one or both ears. 50 million people have tinnitus (ear of head noises) 30 million are exposed to hazardous noise levels or ototoxic chemicals at work. 6 out of every 1,000 children may be born with or develop hearing impairments before 18. 1 in 6 baby boomers (ages 51 to 69) have a hearing problem. 1 in 14 generation xers (ages 35 to 50), or 7. 4%, already have gearing loss. 90% of children in the us will have had at leas one ear infection before the age of 6 years. Audiologists have a professional organization separate from asha: the american academic of audiology.
