Executive summary
This report provides an insight investigation on whether the working from
home policy is suitable for AKC architectural Firm.
At the beginning, a background information regarding the current
situation of the company is given. The main problem that the company is
facing is high rate of staff absenteeism, which is resulted from parent
staff.
In the first half of the report, based on the current situation of the AKC
Architectural Firm, both the advantages and disadvantages of the working
from home are presented. On the one hand, the advantages of working
from home such as reducing absenteeism, increasing the productivity,
improving staff morale, saving operational costs, get a better work-life
balance and save time and money for employees are discussed
respectively. On the other hand, the disadvantages such as a lack of
community and differences in culture, difficult or lacking
communication, security issues, costly and time consuming, feel isolated
and distracted by families are all presented.
In the second half of the report, a recommendation is given. For the
administration staff, working from home is not suitable for them, as they
cannot conduct their work outside their office. The practical resolution for
them is taking a more flexible policy to ensure they can take care of their

children and return to their office. For the architectural staff, if the
company could make a sound policy which can overcome the majority of
the disadvantages, working from home might be supported by both
employees and the employers. Otherwise, the company should take a
flexible policy as for the administration staff.
