Castile and aragon united to drive out of iberia the last islamic sultans (moors). Amerigo vespucci, a venetian under portuguese patronage, discovered that columbus had actually discovered the new world . Conquest of goa (1510) and conquest of malacca (1511) gave the portuguese control of the spice trade.
