Behavioral and cognitive process of selectively concentrating on a sicrete aspect of information, whether deemed subjective or objective, while ignoring other perceivable information. Involved in the selective directedness of our mental lives. Attention prioritizes on afferent (going into mind, ususally vision, somatosensation, perceptionproblem with afferent ) stream over another. Driver: stimulus driven (from environment) / goal driven (inward) Duration: transient (momentary) / sustained (more than a few seconds) If attention is driven by something in environment, then there may be a problem with internal drive dance that needs to occur with two drivers. Attention is a the hub of cognitive neuroscience. Goal-directed attention depends upon complex neural computations. And effective attention requires smart balancing of competitors. It is the taking possession by the mind, in clear and vivid form, of one out of what seem several simultanesouly possible objects or trains of thought. Focalization, concentration of consciousness are of its essence.
