Risk factor for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and some forms of cancer. Incidence of overweight people and obesity is rising. People take in more calories than they need and burn fewer calories due to sedentary lifestyles. Nutrients are chemicals in food that allow our bodies to grow and function. Organic nutrients contain carbon, an essential component of all living organisms. Alcohol provides calories but is not an essential nutrient.
