PSYC 352 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Headache, Aspirin, Operant Conditioning Chamber
Document Summary
There are multiple types of operant antecedent named based on the context they establish. In the skinner box they are stimuli such as light and sounds. When this stimulus is present (on), a response is reinforced. When this stimulus is off, or not present, there is no reinforce for the response. Sets the context for when reinforcers are available. When this stimulus is present (on), a response is punished. When this stimulus is off, or not present, there is no punisher for the response. When stimulus present the reinforcer is not available even though it previously was available. Signals the end of the reinforcer, which is a change in states. Reinforcement- consequence that increases the probability that a behavior will occur again. Ex- child gets praise from dad for good behavior. Rat presses lever for food or to stop noise. Punishment- consequence that decreases the probability that a behavior will occur again.
