From a critical and secular perspective, the bible is simply an anthology of books, loosely knit together, which record the religious experiences of the ancient hebrews and some of the earliest christians. These books can and do present contradictory, inaccurate, and even immoral content but are still valuable historical and literary resources. From a traditional christian perspective, the bible is the very word of god written. It is an authoritative collection of books composed by human authors under the inspiration of the holy spirit and received by the church as divine revelation. In the midst of its manifest diversity, it nonetheless presents a unified and coherent narrative that culminates in the person and work of jesus christ.
