Document Summary

Species: individuals capable of exchanging genes with each other. Population: a group of individuals of same species living in the same area. Baboons: sexual swelling to show female quality in wild baboons. Natural selection: some individuals get to live longer than others and pass on alleles in greater number, better traits, those with better traits, survive better, and reproduce more. Nature selects which alleles get passed on more. Have lots of sex because good things come to those who mate . Variation is the key to natural selection to act. How does natural selection cause evolution: variation with a genetic basis(heritable, those with the best trait will reproduce more, alleles for the best trait become more common. Evolution makes adaptations: improve the ability for an individual to survive and reproduce in a given environment (animals looking like dead leaves) If natural selection acts similar, similar adaptations will evolve.
