We want to make sense of things (understand) and we like to predict how people will respond and then we will know how we should behave/act. We feel uncomfortable when we don"t know how to behave (we feel insecure and a lack of control: humans seek support, liking and acceptance from valued others. We want other people to like us, and to be accepted by other people: strive to develop relationships with other people. We gain social, emotional, psychological, economic benefits: desire to see others-and those who are connected with us- in a positive light. Individuals see themselves as more positive then facts present. Correlation between positive view of self & success, happiness, level of functioning: are resistant to changing our views of ourselves and others.
