Deficit model of aging: we are constantly decaying, the second childhood : when you become a senior citizen, you become treated like a child again (cute, dependent) Shift in perspective: children as economic contributors (child labor, harsh conditions) versus children as having emotional value and needing natural development. Birth cohorts: a grouping of people born during a specific span of years, became a significant social construction related to age.
