ENGL 339 Lecture 5: English 339 W3D2 Lecture 5
Document Summary
The original production of the play has not punctuation: except the pyramus and thisbe. Pauses are in the wrong place: makes him say the opposite of what he means. Showing that he is silly: the punctuation shows he means. To make them sad: the play saws it"s because the script is wet. He threw it in the water to show despair before: parchment and ink got wet. Bottom becomes a better actor when he sees titania: he makes the lines sound elegant, he speaks to titania instead of thisbe. Once he"s lines are nished it becomes silly again. The playwright tries to salvage the play: it is a wreck, thisbe"s wig falls off. The video in class was recorded during ww2: henry v was to make england feel better about winning the world. Thursday, january 26, 2017: henry beat the odds so they can too. Has to be careful about speaking of monarchs.
