ENGL 431 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Fall Guy
Document Summary
Brutus being a character that evokes sympathy: an idealist that deceives himself. Ends up doing things against his own ideals: the idealism of brutus is his most important trait. Brutus speech to cassius in act 4 scene 2: shocked. Is angry at cassius: actually upset over portia"s death. Portia anticipates the negative endings: anticipates horatio and hamlet. Perfect bridges: octavius ending lines are the same as hamlet, antony is no longer roman when he messes up his suicide. The farewell between brutus and cassius: are they really friends, they know they probably will never meet again, cassius was always more realistic about the situation, they show what roman should mean at the end. Even though brutus messes up far more than cassius. They say a noble goodbye: forever and ever farewell . They know they are going to lose. Wednesday, october 17, 2018: they also lost the roman republic. Brutus still cares about ideals: mark antony doesn"t care at all.
