There are two main fallacies in this argument: american jobs only refer to employment within the u. s. Immigrants reduce the number of jobs available to people already in the u. s. Deregulation and deindustrialization have been the main causes of unemployment in the 20th century. Immigration makes up a very small part of this bigger picture. Dismantled origin quotas and moved to a system of uniform quotas. W/preference to family members of people already in the u. s. Started moving jobs across the border to mexico where u. s. laws did not apply. No normal us regulations, made the maquilas extremely pro table. Many border towns have suffered high levels of factory pollution in the air and water. U. s. companies do not have to follow u. s. labor regulations, pay minimum wages, provide health bene ts, pay local taxes and all the products are tax free. Increase in violence, specially directed toward working women.
