Trait theory is the way we look at personality. Don"t tell a difference between personality and situation. Most of what happens to you in your life is in your control. Outcomes less under personal control and more about chance, opportunity, luck etc. Everything is due to chance, problems are not caused by their victims: reciprocal determinism, self-efficacy. Octupuses studies, many species have the big five traits. Personality inventories: standardized tests, pretty good reliability and validity, mmpi. Has patterns that can be seen for lots of disorders: likert scales. Ethics: problem with projected tests, privacy issues in general. Abc"s: affect, behavior, cognition: you are the way you think, you are your behavior, you are your emotion. Self-concept: how you would describe yourself, what do you tell people about yourself, introduce ourselves based on our roles, we can now look at facebook to analyze peoples personality.
