Social behavior that is guaranteed to keep us in the good graces of our social group. Social interaction might be a more powerful need than hunger. Social isolation produces risk of death similar to high blood pressure, obesity and a sedentary lifestyle. Occur quickly (<30 sec: reliable, and very quick, we tend to focus on negative stuff. Persistent, lasts a long time: if your first impression goes well, can make a lasting impression, do break them down, but you have to be around the person to get more data to reserve judgement. Importance of faces: we do pay attention to voice, dress, etc, faces are very important, people could do a pretty good job distinguishing winner and losers from campaigns just by looking @ faces. Why did that just happen: we want to figure out what others are doing, why they are doing it, how we judge others, forming correct attributions is important to social skills.
