Document Summary

People were surveyed on their knowledge of scatterplots. People with less high of an education had a significantly harder time understanding the plot. It is understood that there isn"t as much exposure to those graphs as there is to others. The debate over scatterplots raises the question of if graphs should be instantly understood or if they should be truly read to be understood. The author claims that exposure to these more complex analytics, portraying different forms of data are good for us and allow us to learn. This raises the question of if we should accept simplicity in our analysis of graphs or if we should be looking for new ways to express data. The line of best fit helps people understand better, but the actual points on the plot are really what creates the unique element of the scatterplot. The scatterplot is especially helpful when there is a large amount of data to plot.
