Document Summary

Quantification- involves measurement as part of observation- it is one of the most important tools. Quantification allows you to specify the difference precisely: attend class regularly, review the topics you learned in class the same day the topics are covered in classs, learn the vocab, ask instructor for help. Key characteristics of the scientific method: make observation. Observation- involves the measurement or description of some aspect of nature. Antoine lavoisier , a french chemisit , made an oberservation about the physical world. Make observations: some obervations can be made witht the naked eye. Other observations rely on the use of sensitive instrumentation some happen by chance: ex) discovered penicillin by acciedent, formulate hypotheses. Hypothesis- a tentative interpretation or explanation of the observations. Hypotheses are tested by experiments: preform experiments. Experiments- highly controlled obersvations desisded to validate or invalidate hypothsis. The results of an experiment may confirm a hypth or show the hypth to be mistaken in some way.
