More information about the birthing process is given to expectant mothers. Breathing techniques are taught and employed to use during the birthing process. General anesthetics can be used during the birthing process. Often used in the 1960"s and early, women were completely unconscious during the delivery process. Also known as pitocin or epidural, is a form of anesthetics that is admitted into the woman"s spine and completely numbs her from the waist down. A cesarean section, or c-section, is a surgical birth that entails a woman"s lower abdomen being cut open under anesthetics as a method to deliver the baby. It is often used when the baby is in distress, such as a breech or if the baby"s oxygen levels are too low to undergo a vaginal birth. A form of an at home birth, can be a pool birth. The expectant mother is usually accompanied by a midwife.
