HDF 303 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Baby Bottle, Abbreviation, Spoken Language
Document Summary
Written while behavior is occurring or after it occurs. Describe the child"s behavior not what you think of the child"s behavior. Try to have a complete beginning, middle and end. These short reports describe, in a factual way, the incident, its context, and what was said or done by the child. The anecdotal records of child behavior accumulated over time enhance the teacher"s understanding of the individual child as patterns begin to emerge. Behavior change can be tracked and documented, and placed in the child"s portfolio resulting in suggestions for future observations, curriculum planning and student or parent conferences. Can include incidents no matter when they happen. Can look for and record certain behaviors & ignore the rest. Anecdotal record should be recorded as the events are happening. However, some anecdotal records have to be written later at the end of the day. Keeping brief notes on index cards or sticky notes carried in your pockets can be helpful.
