A practical approach: content, context, and consequences. Supernatural causes- demons once were the cause of this (not technically) Biological causes- genetic predispositions or chemical imbalances. Psychological processes- experience in their life has led to a different view. Diathesis-stress approach- combo of 2 or 3. This takes an environmental trigger to kick the genetic predisposition. Anxiety disorders- characterized by more anxiety than what is typically expected. State anxiety- feel fine most of the time, they have a triggering event, thought, circumstance, that makes them anxious. Phobias- the fear experience is not proportionate the the actual fear. Trait anxiety- not one specific thing, it is more of part of the individual. Generalized anxiety disorder- generalized high level of anxiety. They are nervous and worried all of the time.
