PSY 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Binge Eating, Hypothalamus, Libido
Document Summary
Biological factors- there are certain behaviors that are built into us, such as eating when we are hungry, drinking water when we are thirsty. We are also motivated to have sex, to survive in future generations. Emotional factors- the emotions we experience will change what we are motivated to do and what kinds of behaviors we are motivated to get into. If you are afraid of something you will be motivated to get away. Cognitive factors- it is not just what we feel but what we think. Ex. two students in a class taking a midterm, and both students fail. The two students come up with 2 reasons why. I didn"t work hard enough that"s why they failed, and the other determines that the class is just too hard that"s why they didn"t pass. Whether you think you can do it or not, you"re right. Social factors- we strive to get social rewards and reinforcements.
