REL 334 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Aaron T. Beck, Viral Hemorrhagic Fever, Yellow Fever
Document Summary
Chapter 13 questions 6 & 7: assess the manner in which social, psychological, and religious factors influence the mindset of terrorists. Much of the terrorism in recent decades has had a religious component where terrorists combine their hate toward a secular state along with their perception of themselves as defenders of an ancient faith. This tactic shows the terrorist"s belief to be engaged in a worthy struggle to make a sacrifice. They believe it is their duty to do this to fight the difference between good vs. evil. Aaron beck describes the act of terrorism as prisoners of hate and that they are not deranged but more so possessed by a hatred toward an enemy. Terrorists see this act as being a hero. Some terrorists are classified as lone wolves where they are doing these attacks to support a movement of some sort but they do so alone outside of a command or organization.
