50 views3 pages

Document Summary

Floods occur when excess water flows over land that is normally dry. The water does not flow through any definite channel but spread over land surface. The most common type of flood is when a river overflows its banks. This may occur in the wet reason in the tropics or in spring and summer in the temperate latitudes. Another common type of flood is when ocean water overflows its shoreline and spreads over the coastal plains. Floods can have devastating consequences and can have effects on the economy, environment and people. During floods (especially flash floods), roads, bridges, farms, houses and automobiles are destroyed. Additionally, the government deploys firemen, police and other emergency apparatuses to help the affected. All these come at a heavy cost to people and the government. It usually takes years for affected communities to be re-built and business to come back to normalcy.
