A. 2. b. i. final battle- isabella personally led her army, wearing the red cross of a crusader. Spain had a long history of religious diversity and tolerance. Since the 700"s, muslims, jews, and christians had all lived there. Under, ferdinand and isabella, spain"s religious tolerance ended. As a devout roman catholic, isabella decreed that in a christian state, there could be only one king, one law, one faith. She and ferdinand won permission from the pope to revive the inquisition, the arm of the church that had tracked down heretics in the middle ages.
