MUSI 15100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Prolongation
Document Summary
The lt is the 3rd of v, so in v6 it is in the bass. Don"t leap to lt from below in bass. In an iac, pac, or hc, don"t use v6. Never do scale degree 5 in the soprano three times in a row. I v6 i = tonic prolongation. Can also do i6 v6 i or i v6 i6. I viio6 i6 = tonic prolongation. Side note: for viio6, try doubling the 3rd. Another side note: v iv6 v6 (this is the only time you can use iv after v) First v has lt in soprano that doesn"t resolve to tonic. It instead passes the lt to the v6 chord, which would then resolve to tonic.
