Classical management approaches: classical mgmnt: rep. by collection of theories that share underlying metaphor of org. modeled after efficient machines. From empire to hierarchy: 18th-20th century corp. viewed as extensions of gov. Expanded trade, provided employment for masses, contrib. to ec. /social devel. Industry need not wish there are no gains w/out pains. Sloth makes all things difficult, but industry all easy. Early to be, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, & wise.
