On january 12, 2010, a 7. 0 magnitude struck the impoverished country of haiti causing immediate and long lasting damage that has ruined the lives of many of its citizens. 220,000 haitians were killed, 105,000 homes were destroyed, and 188,000 homes were badly damaged. Throughout this catastrophe many have worked countless hours to tend to those seeking support and to help rebuild that which has been lost by the immense power of the earthquake. Medical facilities were unable to keep up with the demand the haitian people sought. With no other option, people flocked to refugee camps, which quickly became overcrowded. Many haitian citizens have been struck by the aftermath of the earthquake including the collapse of buildings, lack of medical attention, piling of dead bodies, and over crowded camps. The greatest loss from the haitian earthquake was due to the poor infrastructure many of the buildings had.
