Document Summary

Residual dry matter management on coastal and foothill annual rangelands. Residual dry matter (rdm) is old plant material that has been left on the ground at the start of the new growing season. This literature review will discuss the rdm standard that is used by agencies to determine the level of grazing use on annual rangelands, savannas, and woodlands. This study analyzes the rdm standard and its influence on forage production as well as species composition. The quantity of rdm is affected by site conditions but it"s mostly due to variations in weather patterns. It also addresses how different experiments conducted by heady had a drastic impact on composition at high rainfall and forage efficiency. This study further goes on to discuss the three different types of grazing and the processes/techniques of clipping plots. Its goal is to increase the amount of knowledge regarding rdm and how beneficial it can be to a rangeland.
