PSYC 395 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Social Perception, Mirror Neuron, Display Rules
Document Summary
Social perception- the study of how we form impressions of and make inferences about other people. The need to uncover the temporary causes of behavior (e. g. , emotion) The need to uncover the stable causes of behavior (e. g. , personality) The way in which people communicate intentionally or unintentionally, without words. Mirror neurons respond when we perform an action and when we see someone else perform the same action. Mirror neurons appear to be the basis of our ability to feel empathy. For example, when we see someone crying, these mirror neurons fire automatically and involuntarily, just as if we were crying ourselves. Unmasking the face: facial expressions as clues to others" emotions. Most of the universal facial expressions are negative. Anger is especially east to identify (the face in the crowd effect) Affect blend= one side shows a different emotion from the other.
