Document Summary

The italian and northern renaissances will forever be linked in history. The two influenced each other and had many commonalities as well as differences. Northern renaissance focused on humanism, but what differentiated the two was the aspects of humanism they displayed. In the italian renaissance, the humanistic focus was on education, which came from studying the ancient greek and roman ideas. In the northern renaissance, the humanistic focus was on religion, which stemmed from learning christian ideas of the simple individual church. The italian and northern renaissance had similar artistic themes such as religion and individuals but where the two periods differed was when it came to classism, and italian theme, versus realism, a northern theme. Art of the italian renaissance expressed interest in the individual person due to their belief that humanism led humans to be more dignified and worthy.
